Huddersfield Driving Test Centre Set for Move
Rumours of new and relocated driving test centres have swept the UK in recent weeks, as the DVSA looks to tackle driving test backlogs. The latest to be linked with relocation is Huddersfield Driving Test Centre. What does this mean for learner drivers in the Yorkshire town?
According to local press reports, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has filed for planning permission to relocate Huddersfield Driving Test Centre.
Where is the new Huddersfield Driving Test Centre likely to be?
An application lodged with Kirklees Council indicates that the DVSA wants to convert offices at Pennine Business Park, currently occupied by an accounting firm. It’s not yet clear if the new facility will be used solely for practical driving tests, but any potential move is likely to irk learner drivers because the new location is not easily accessible using public transport.
The DVSA has neither confirmed nor denied if a move is imminent, should Kirklees council grant planning permission. A DVSA statement said: “The DVSA often considers its options when exploring new premises. Planning applications form a very early part of that exploration.”
The DVSA is only likely to announce a new location for the driving test centre in Huddersfield once all the ‘i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed.’
Where is the current Huddersfield Driving Test Centre?
Waverley House in Edgerton is the current home of the Huddersfield Driving Test Centre. Meanwhile, theory tests are conducted at Ramsden House, opposite Primark on New Street in the town centre.
According to the planning permission application submitted to Kirklees council, the DVSA wants to replace the existing entrance to the offices at Pennine Business Park, and plans to remodel the interior with meeting rooms, designated areas for examiners, a lobby area plus toilets for driving test candidates.
